Our Favorite Handicap Accessible Attractions

Chimney Rock State Park: is known for its miles of trails and breathtaking views. While the trails are not accessible, you can still see gorgeous views from multiple accessible spots. Drive to the upper parking lot, which has a scenic overlook that rivals the top of Chimney Rock. When the elevator is available, you can ride up to the Sky Lounge for more beautiful views.

The Biltmore Estate: is a short drive from downtown Asheville. As the largest home in America, it is one of the top attractions in the area. Due to the estate’s historic architecture, only the first and second floors are available. However, discounted tickets are offered to those with disabilities. The third floor and basement don’t have elevator access, but you are invited to visit the designated rest area and watch a video of the rooms you are unable to access. Some portions of the gardens are not accessible, but all the restaurants and the winery can be accessed by those in a wheelchair. Also, a complimentary wine tasting is included with each ticket.

Blue Ridge Parkway: While the Parkway offers challenging hikes and rocky outcroppings to explore, it also has developmental ranges and mobility levels. Enjoy the uninterrupted natural setting and tranquility of a drive on the Parkways. There are plenty of overlooks along the Parkway’s paved roadway, featuring beautiful views easily accessible to all visitors. Most Parkway facilities such as Visitor Centers and Picnic Areas are Wheelchair Accessible.
